Morning Live hosted a discussion on the critical state of the economy in South Africa. A lead researcher at the Benchmark Foundation, David Van Wyk, says low wages contribute to the negative growth of the economy. With about 17 million social grant recipients and more than 10 million unemployed citizens, today we look at the role played by government in dealing with poverty, inequality and unemployment.
Madalitso Phiri is a Doctoral Research Fellow at Unisa. His area of study is Social Grants Contribution to Poverty Reduction and Inequality, with a special focus on SA and Brazil.
