As a deadly crackdown on violent protests forces Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa to cut short a trip in Europe, Newsnight asks what happened to the reforms promised after Robert Mugabe’s reign ended.

Alex Magaisa – former advisor to the opposition leader Morgan Tsangarai – and Xavier Zavare, a spokesperson for the governing party Zanu-PF, join Emily Maitlis.

John Sweeney and Andrew Harding report.

  1. This Zanu of guy is delusional. Insulting the president? So what? Is that a bread and butter issue? Moron

  2. But to be fair Mugabe left an absolute mess, he trashed everything during his four terrible decades. Just the truth.

  3. LMAO my business are based on the Internet, the whole word are linked and you want to tell me you will find investors. lmao yes mid evil investors.

  4. If the people do manage to oust ZanuPF then the Chinese will enforcers, oops I mean advisers, will place another puppet in place.

  5. "i don’t like what you say so i will just interrupt you non-stop until you say something i like"
    "we are out of time"

  6. What I don’t get about white people griping on here. If Zimbabwe is starving why would you care to come on here & spew so much negative energy? You don’t live there anymore. Leave it alone. Are you really that POD that in your new country you have to mow your own lawn? The 60s & 70s ARE OVER. Move on with your lives.

  7. I am not Zanu l am not mdc l am a zimbabwean just born in HELL what a shithole country.
    Diamond rich
    Gold rich
    Minerals rich
    Yet we live like Rats
Karma is a bitch Watch Mugabe thot he was above the law where is he now.

  8. Mugabe becomes the tombstone of Zimbabwe
the people who voted for him most were killed by his regime. The people get the leader they wanted.
A dictator and murderer . And who will be the next dictator .

  9. Wtf wrong with that zanu guy ….about Investors can still invest in a country with no internet😅

  10. I just wish Trump could just walk away. No sanctions, but no aid either. Just WALKAWAY. Let China deal with Africa and try to make positive change in the Americas. North, South and Central America. Move away from petroleum and become the leader in solar and wind etc. Just walk away. Stop wasting our tax dollars. We , in the west, dont have the stomach to deal with what has to be done. China does. There are no Pelosi’s in China’s government. Its all about business and what’s good for China. Let them deal with it as we have proven that we cannot.

  11. Im coming to that conclusion that almost all Mainstream media reporting are simply guided by interest.. Ive been watching this Zimbabwe drama from one news network to the other back to back..and notice how You lots are (fake) worried about Mnangagwa treatment of his people(which is horrible), but same energy isnt given to the thousands killed under Buhari’s government, from Shitte people to Igbo people to the Midbelt and South South people in Nigeria… I wonder why?? One beats his people, the other kills and yet the one that does not suit your interest gets the coverage.. Why?????

  12. NON IS REPORTED ABOUT THE LOOTINGS, THE ROADS BARRICADING, THE BURNING OF CARS ,PROPERTIES,ASSULTS AND KILLING OF POLICE OFFICERS BY THE SO CALLED DEMONSTRATORS BUT JUST THE LATER ACTIONS OF THE STATE, WHY?….AND THO MUGABE HAS GONE ,,,,,ILLEGAL SANCTIONS OF USA REMAINED AND NOTHING IS REPORTED OF THEIR IMPACT TO LIVES OF THE ORDINARY…..

  13. Αs soon as there is a protest somewhere, the politically correct media present is in hagiographic terms: bereaved innocent citizens rising against the bad guys and becoming the victims of violent crackdown. Without justifying the recent deaths in Zimbabwe, this superficial and stereotype approach prevents us from going a little deeper into the issue and analysing it from all sides. Personally I would question the democratic credentials of protesters who block streets and loot properties. These are authoritarians themselves, whose actions are directed against fellow citizens, and not against the bad guys, who are supposed to be the oppressors.

  14. Before the the elections we saw some road refurbishments going on, signing of quiet a number of business deals. Now where are the results?.The situation of Zimbabwe is heartbreaking indeed!

  15. Come on Newsnight pull your finger out and report on the chaos which is now South africa

  16. Development starts with Zanu pf stepping down from power. People looted because they were taught by the Zanu pf leaders how to loot the nation. How much have they looted so far. Where is the 15 billion dollars from the diamond sales? The whole thing called zanu pf should go, including nembwa dzavo dzese, nemapete. There is no democracy in Zimbabwe. People are still hunted for posting negative comments on social media.

  17. Zimbabwe is fucked until the next lit of Colonists, the Chinese, take it over.

You can’t expect monkeys to run a zoo.

  18. The only african nation i’ll visit is Botswana….maybe south africa (white people part).

  19. The Zimbabwean people dont deserve this. They have been victims of they’re own government for far too long.

  20. ZANU is still in charge just a new face in charge. These socialist parties never succeed
