With Saint Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we decided to take a look at some modern-day Romeo and Juliets, couples who are in love but faced with enormous obstacles.
In this first episode in our “Forbidden Love” series, we head to Senegal. Massamba and Khady are in love but he’s a nobleman and she’s from a family of griots, the community of storytellers and musicians in West Africa. Because she’s a commoner, the young man’s family opposed their marriage. But Massamba and Khady forged ahead, going against tradition.
